WORCESTERSHIRE - Scammers cost county folk £30m a year

WORCESTERSHIRE residents are being urged to be extra cautious when offered “miracle health cures”.

The county council is warning people to be aware of cons promising cures as part of its “Scamnesty” month.

Cons which offer miraculous cures are among the top five that people fall for.

Scams like these, along with others including deceptive sweepstakes, misleading prize draws, fake clairvoyants or psychics and bogus foreign lotteries, cost Worcestershire £30 million a year.

The county council is asking people who are targeted by these cons to come and drop them into boxes in customer service centres across Worcestershire.

It is hoped these leaflets will help both the Office of Fair Trading and the local authorities’ Trading Standards Service with future investigations.

Anyone who thinks they have been a victim of a scam, or suspect a scam, should call Consumer Direct for clear, practical advice on 08454 04 05 06
